Patient Partnership Quality Mark and Clinical Management Quality Mark Awards 2019

We received our plaques today for our Patient Partnership Quality Mark and Clinical Management Quality Mark, now proudly displayed on the wall in reception!

We are proud to be the only clinic in the Emsworth and Havant area to hold these two national awards presented by The Royal College of Chiropractors. We have held these awards every year since the clinic opened, which is a huge achievement for our small business, but most importantly, demonstrates our dedication to you, our patients, year after year.

The Patient Partnership Quality Mark is awarded to clinics that demonstrate excellence in meeting patient expectations in a range of areas including accessibility, cleanliness and safety and patient communication.

The Clinical Management Quality Mark is awarded to those clinics that demonstrate excellence in terms of operating within a structured and managed clinical environment. The clinics must demonstrate excellence in a range of areas including clinical audit, incident reporting and patient satisfaction.

It’s so important to us that we meet the high standards of excellence set by the Royal College of Chiropractors as we want to provide the very best care and service to you that we can, and these awards let us know that we are achieving this.

Acorn Health receives two National Awards 2017

We are beyond thrilled to announce we have been awarded the highly regarded Patient Partnership Quality Mark (PPQM) and Clinical Management Quality Mark (CMQM) from the Royal College of Chiropractors for the second consecutive occasion! This comes following a highly successful launch of our new premises in Palmers Road, marking the start of an exciting new period for us.

The PPQM is awarded to clinics that demonstrate excellence in meeting patient expectations in a range of areas including accessibility, cleanliness and safety and patient communication.  The CMQM is awarded to those clinics that demonstrate excellence in terms of operating within a structured and managed clinical environment. The clinics must demonstrate excellence in a range of areas including clinical audit, incident reporting and patient satisfaction.

Philippa comments “We are thrilled to have been recognised by the Royal College of Chiropractors for the second consecutive occasion. Acorn Health began trading in 2014 and expanded to new premises just last month, so we’re delighted to have achieved this recognition in a relatively short period of time. We want our patients to receive the very best care we can offer, and we’ve worked hard to ensure we meet the high standards set by the Royal College of Chiropractors and deliver on all aspects of both patient care, service and clinical excellence.”

The decision to award the Quality Marks is made by a panel of patients and public who form the Royal College of Chiropractor’s Lay Partnership Group.  In being selected to receive both Quality Marks, Acorn Health has become one of less than 50 clinics in the UK to hold both awards.  Philippa comments “It’s a huge honour to have been selected to receive both awards once again, and is a testament to the level of service provided by all of the team here that we have met these high standards of excellence.”

The treatments and services we provide at Acorn Health are uniquely tailored to your needs, and it is important that we work together with you to achieve whichever end goal you are seeking- be this reduced pain, improved sporting performance, or simply being able to run around with your family!

Our wonderful team of practitioners work together to support each other and you, ensuring your and your family’s healthcare needs can be met under one roof.

Pain in the butt!

Little muscle- BIG pain! We wanted to tell you about a classic case that appeared in clinic this week as it may also help you – a lady in her mid 30’s came into clinic with excruciating pain and tingling sensations radiating down the back of her thigh. Good old ‘Dr Google’ had suggested this could be sciatica which had got her really worried.

On examination, we found a nasty little group of what are called “trigger points” (focal areas of hyperirritability within a muscle) in her gluteus minimus muscle, and palpation of these reproduced the exact pain she had been experiencing. But what is this? The referred pain generated from trigger points in the gluteus minimus is notorious for activating other trigger points in the TFL, quadriceps, gastrocnemius, hamstrings, and peroneal muscle groups- in fact, gluteus minimus referred pain is often referred to as “pseudo-sciatica”, as it so closely mimics the symptoms of sciatica.

What commonly causes a glute min trigger point?
– Walking or running on uneven ground
– Sitting on a wallet (hello chaps- we’re talking to you!)
– Limping (from a foot or lower leg injury)
– Driving long distances or sitting for long periods
– Sacroiliac joint dysfunction

Fortunately, with a comprehensive treatment programme which addresses the many components of this problem, this issue can be resolved swiftly and successfully in clinic, helping to relieve what is a literal “pain in the butt“!

PPQM Award

We are excited to announce Acorn Health in Emsworth has been awarded the highly regarded Patient Partnership Quality Mark (PPQM) from the Royal College of Chiropractors which recognise excellence in terms of meeting patient expectations. This award is a great contribution to the Emsworth health care community as less than 150 clinics in the whole of the UK hold a PPQM.

Philippa Oakley, principal Chiropractor adds, ‘We are thrilled to have been recognised as one of them in just over 6 months from opening and we are looking forward to going up to London to collect the award in January! As part of the mark, we are required to demonstrate that we meet patient expectations in a wide range of areas including; accessibility, communication with our patients, privacy, patient aftercare and record keeping.’
