DNS Rehabilitation Exercise
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation (DNS)
The ability for us to move and move well is inherent within us and should develop during the first few years of life. Our core starts to develop from 3 months old. From then a sequence of movements occurs which gets us from lying down, to sitting, to crawling, to standing, to walking (and everything in between and after). Sometimes we lose the ability to move well, we develop a weak core, faulty breathing patterns, develop poor posture resulting in injury.
At Acorn Health, Doctor of Chiropractic Philippa Oakley teaches DNS rehabilitation exercises through a treatment programme with her current chiropractic patients. Philippa is a member of the Royal College of Chiropractors (RCC) specialist Pregnancy and Paediatrics faculty and has extensive knowledge and experience in helping post-natal women. Also, she is a member of the RCC Specialist Pain Faculty, and has specialist further training in helping men and women of all ages manage their pain.
What to expect from a DNS session?
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation is a cutting edge rehabilitation protocol which is designed to restore and stabilize locomotor function. It takes us back to our most basic movement patterns that we see during early development. From these positions we can re-program the correct breathing patterns and core activation patterns that we have lost. In these positions we can also help to correct the poor postural and movement patterns which have developed over time, and help to prevent injury from arising.
Things which DNS can help with include:
- Pain Reduction
- Reduced Muscle Tension
- Injury Prevention
- Poor Posture
- Better Joint Stabilisation
- Improved Movement
- Improved Sports Performance
