2019: Our year in review

As this decade draws to a close, we’ve taken the opportunity to look back on the year to bring you our year in review, showing a few highlights from the clinic throughout 2019!

The year got off to an incredible start…

We once again received two national awards from the Royal College of Chiropractors. We are the only clinic in the Emsworth and Havant area to hold both these awards which recognise our committment to clinical management and forming a partnership with our patients.

Find out more about our awards here.

We created a rehab space in the clinic, to help those of you recovering from back injuries. This gives us the space to work through exercises with you under supervision, and have one-on-one Dynamic Neuromuscular Stablisation (DNS) sessions with Philippa.

Find out more about DNS here.

“Philippa and her team offer a fantastic service. The treatment I have received has been first class and I have felt completely informed throughout. The improvements to my back have been remarkable thanks to Philippa’s treatment and guidance. Booking appointments is incredibly easy online which is a huge benefit. I’m deeply grateful for being able to find a chiropractor service as good as Acorn.” – Google customer review

We welcomed new team members…

We welcomed our new Sports Therapist Tom to the clinic in September. Tom has a wealth of professional experience, offering Sports Therapy and Sports Massage. He currently works with us on a Friday morning.

We have also welcomed Osteopath James Bisson to the team at the clinic! James graduated from Swansea University in 2019 with his Master of Osteopath degree.

We took part in some fantastic new courses!

Speaking of DNS, this year Philippa has undertaken two courses in this assessment method.
Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilisation is a cutting edge rehabilitation protocol which is designed to restore and stabilize locomotor function. It takes us back to our most basic movement patterns that we see during early development. From these positions we can re-program the correct breathing patterns and core activation patterns that we have lost to reduce pain, restore normal movement and prevent recurrence.

You’ve all been very happy with us this year… 100% of our patients this year reported feeling either “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the care you have received from us, which we’re delighted about!

We had some fabulous lecturing opportunities

Over the summer, Philippa was asked to speak at an event with the Royal College of Chiropractors titled “Communicating with Patients in Pain.” It was a well-attended event and Philippa enjoyed presenting alongside a dynamic team of leading Chiropractors in the UK. This is leading on to a range of further speaking events in 2020 lecturing to other healthcare professionals on how we can work to communicate more effectively with our patients.

“I highly recommend Acorn Health. Philippa, Rhiannon and the other members of staff I met were always so friendly and welcoming. Always interested to see how I was which was lovely. Acorn fitted me in on the same day I phoned when I first experienced my back issue… Professional, friendly, caring and fun….what more do you want from a practice!”  — Google customer review

All our team worked hard with continued learning…

Rhiannon completed an Neuro-Linguistic Programming Advanced Practitioner certificate. NLP is the practice of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do, and is also used for personal development and for success in business. Rhiannon has been utilising these new NLP skills to help her clients during their Life Coaching sessions with her and is looking forward to doing further training in 2020.

Find out more about Rhiannon here.

Acupuncturist Gillian completed a year long Diploma in Gynaecology, Fertility and Obstetric Acupuncture. The diploma had a demanding and extensive syllabus, including acupuncture treatment for amenorrhea, polycystic ovarian syndrome, recurrent miscarriage, supportive treatment for IVF, morning sickness, menopause, induction of labour and much more.

Philippa completed module 1 of “Psychosocial Barriers in MSK (musculoskeletal) Conditions” This is the first part of a Masters level modular education programme on understanding and managing psychosocial barriers in musculoskeletal conditions. Managing persistent pain is an area of specialist interest for Philippa and this is one of a number of postrgraduate courses she has undertaken to better help you all during treatment.

Jo completed a diploma in Customer Service and is well on her way to becoming a medical secretary!

James had his graduation ceremony

Our Osteopath James, had his long-awaited graduation ceremony in December! James qualified from Swansea University this past summer so he’d been looking forward to his graduation ceremony for some time. Congratulations, James!

Our reception team expanded

Our reception team grew this year with the addition of Linda. Linda has been working within GP practices for the past 9 years so brings with her a wealth of experience, and has already proven to be a fabulous addition to the team.

And to round our year off….

Our Annual Report was sent to all local GP practices to let them know your fantastic outcomes from our care throughout 2019.

    • 96% of our patients report feeling “very satisfied” with the care we have provided. 4% report feeling “satisfied.”
    • 71% of our patients report feeling “definitely better” 14 days after starting care with us.
    • This figure rises to almost 90% at 90 days, which means that you are getting better, and importantly, staying better!
    • We aim to offer all new patients an appointment to be seen in clinic to commence treatment within 24 hours of contacting us. We are delighted to have achieved this target this year!

The annual report also shows how we can help GP’s locally. Around 30% of GP appointments are for musculoskeletal conditions, and waiting lists for NHS physiotherapy are often several weeks. By working more closely with our GP’s, we hope they will consider suggesting us to you if you do visit them for a musculoskeletal problem (although remember you do not need a GP referral to see any of our practitioners).

So from all of us here at Acorn Health….

We wish you a happy New Year!

We hope 2020 brings you health and happiness, and if you ever need us to look after your healthcare needs, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
