Level 3 Pilates Instructor, registered with REPS (the Register of Exercise Professionals), and CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity).
Having qualified as a Level 2 Pilates Instructor in 2008, Alison gained her Level 3 qualification in 2010. She is qualified to design Pilates classes both for people with common orthopaedic conditions and also for pre-and post-natal care. Alison has also taught in an NHS medium secure mental health unit, delivering Pilates taster sessions in a men-only environment.
Having suffered with lower back pain for many years, highly likely as a result of sitting at a desk as a secretary in the Foreign Office and then some years later, in the NHS as a Project Manager, Alison was inspired to start Pilates by one of her karate students. The subsequent training in Pilates and constant practice has improved her posture dramatically, thereby reducing her lower back pain.
Prior to teaching Pilates, Alison trained as a Karate Coach and holds 6th Dan Black Belt. Training in karate since 1981, Alison has competed nationally and coached many students to 1st Dan.
Pilates is a low-impact, relaxing mat-based exercise programme which will help improve balance, posture, core strength and ultimately help tone your body. Pilates helps to build long, lean muscle and with the correct posture and body alignment, less stress, tension and fatigue builds up in the muscles.
The core principles of Pilates help to focus the attention on bringing together the correct engagement of muscles and breathing. This can help with concentration, breathing, core strength, control, quality, flow, stamina, and relaxation.
Further benefits of Pilates include improved posture, better muscle tone and coordination. The exercises help to relieve stress and tension and promote a feeling of well-being.
About the Classes
These classes are either private (one on one) or two-on-one. You will be working in a supportive, safe environment with Alison, who will help ensure you perform the exercises correctly and gain the most possible benefit from your class. Working privately with Alison means your recovery and training will progress at a quicker rate than in a larger class, and Alison will have more time to get to know you and the areas you need to focus on.
With your consent, your practitioner at Acorn Health is able to share relevant information about your condition and treatment with Alison to ensure your pilates program is tailored to accommodate your individual rehabilitation requirements. This gives Alison a deep understanding of the history and nature of your problem, helping to create a truly individualised program.
Sessions start from £45.00 per hour.
