Chiropractors are experts in the mechanics of your body, with an in-depth understanding of how it should perform. We understand what can problems you can encounter through areas of dysfunction in your body, and can help restore normal function and movement to these areas. In doing so, chiropractic can help relieve the pain and discomfort that arises from injury, stress, poor posture, lack of exercise and everyday strains!
Did you know…Chiropractic is the third largest primary healthcare profession in the world after medicine and dentistry!
What to expect at a session
At your initial consultation, your chiropractor will ask you to explain how your pain arose, and what it means to you- we want to make sure understand the impact your pain has been having on your life. You’ll be able to talk through any historic elements that you think may have had an impact on the current problem which will help us to ensure the treatment plan proposed is focussed around your personal condition and helps you to achieve the goals you want from care.
Chiropractic is a profession, not a treatment, and so you may be offered a range of different treatment options which depend on the level of pain, what the problem is, and most importantly, your personal preferences. Your treatment programme may include manual therapy (adjustments of your spine and joints), soft tissue work, acupuncture, exercises and other techniques. One of the key benefits you’ll find from seeing chiropractor is that you will receive a short, highly personalised treatment programme which is tailored to your needs and preferences, and includes advice for you to help yourself at home, exercises and management strategies.
Chiropractic is suitable for all the family, as treatments can be adapted to suit the very young and very old!
- Manual therapy
- A structured exercise programme
- Acupuncture (Philippa is fully trained and registered to provide acupuncture as part of her treatments.)
Whilst you might come to see us for back and neck pain, you can also see us for help with a range of other problems related to the muscles, joints and nerves in any part of your body. In addition, your entire physical and psychological wellbeing is taken into account during your assessment as this can have an impact on your response to care. Remember, chiropractors don’t just relieve pain- we help you take control of it.
Chiropractic care during pregnancy:
Chiropractic care for expectant mums is very gentle, the specific techniques help to alleviate pain and discomfort during your pregnancy and encourage an easier delivery. In addition, you will receive support to help you cope with the changes your body undergoes during pregnancy, and combine a range of techniques with advice, specific exercise recommendations and more.
Philippa has a special interest in treating mums-to-be, babies and children. As a member of the Royal College of Chiropractor’s specialist Pregnancy and Paediatric Faculty you can be sure you are receiving the highest level of care for you and your ‘little acorns.’
Chiropractic care for babies and children:
We welcome patients of all ages at Acorn Health, and chiropractic care is a safe and effective way to help your child. Treatment consists of gentle spinal, cranial and visceral paediatric techniques performed using only very light pressure. The pressure is so light, it is less than what you would use to check the ripeness of a tomato!
If you are a parent or carer, you will know that babies and very young children can’t tell us what’s wrong, so these appointments give us an opportunity to examine your little one in a thorough and unhurried manner. During these appointments, we may ask you some questions about your pregnancy, the birth, and your child’s developmental milestones. We often rely on the information we receive from you, the child’s caregivers, to help us identify what the issue may be.
Little Acorn appointments are uniquely tailored to your child, and you will be involved in every decision and every step of your little one’s journey.
