What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture forms part of Traditional Chinese Medicine which works to correct and harmonise the body’s flow, relieving pain and restoring health and wellbeing. Through ongoing research, the British Acupuncture Council has shown that treatment can benefit pain and discomfort associated with arthritis, symptoms of menopause, headaches, anxiety and stress conditions. Although acupuncture is often thought of as a treatment for pain it has may other benefits
ranging from relaxing and energising the body to promoting improvement in general wellbeing.
Our highly experienced acupuncturist Gillian has specialist knowledge in helping those experiencing fertility difficulties. As a result of her background in midwifery, Gill specialises in fertility acupuncture and helping those going through IVF. Whether you are trying to get pregnant, going through assisted conception or struggling with disorders of pregnancy, treatment can help manage the stress and anxiety. Gill utilises her previous experience and knowledge of working within the NHS to tailor treatments based on the most up-to-date methods and research.
What to expect at a session
Your initial consultation with Gill will take up to 1.5 hours. During this time Gill will take a full medical history and complete an assessment of your complaint. You will then together discuss an acupuncture treatment plan, and your first treatment will take place.
The needles are much finer than those used for injections or blood tests- they’re not much thicker than a human hair. Rather than pain, you should experience a tingling effect or at most a dull ache momentarily when the needle has been inserted. It is common to experience a profound sense of relaxation during your treatment!
- Initial Consultation (1.5 hours)- £65.00
- Follow-up Treatment (45 minutes)- £45.00
Please Note: Appointments with Gill are available at Acorn Health from Wednesday to Friday.
